On the evening of March 8, 2011 D-Battalion responded to 166 Lane Road for a reported chimney fire that was filling the house with smoke. The call was dispatched shortly before 24:00 hours. With the quick response times of the Auburn Fire Department they were able to save the home with no damage to the house.
Engine-2 was first on arrival and reported that there was moderate fire in the chimney with possible extensions in the walls on the second floor. Engine-2’s crew quickly made entry to check for fire in the wall, however no extension was found. Next arriving on the scene was Engine-3 and 315. 315 assumed command while Engine-3's crew began cleaning out the stove and chimney in anticipation for Tower-1 to drop the chimney chains. Once Tower-1 arrived on the scene they made a set with the aerial ladder to the chimney and deployed the chimney chains to extinguish the fire that filled the flue of the chimney. On all accounts the operation went well and in a timely manner. It was later determined that if the Auburn Fire Department did not have extinguished the fire as fast as they did then the wall and attic space around the chimney would have been well involved with heavy fire. Once again it shows how important a Full-Time, well staffed, well trained department is for a community.
